The second in the series of craft ideas and parenting hacks that I am creating with my kids during self-isolation. These bookmarks are so easy to make once you have been shown, they make minimal mess, require only paper, glue and scissors, kids love making them, and they are really useful for children who love reading and books.
CREATE YOUR OWN EASY TROPICAL FISH TANK. Children who love fishes, painting, glitter and glue will love thiseasy craft activity.
It can take up to a couple of hours but there are lots of fun little tasks for your kid, or kids, to do. Whether it's cutting and designing fish, painting, decorating, or take it to the next level and research the types of fish you are adding to the tank.
If you have kids, endless hours of yoga, exercise, watching box sets and reading books will most likely not be your reality. With lots of time ahead of you to fill with activities you might want some ideas thrown your way.
If you're scratching your head wondering what else you can do, here are some of my top 10 isolation friendly activities to do with (or without) kids.
Walking through the airport weighed down like an ass carrying all the kids crap one needs for a four hour flight, as well as a small child on my hip, it occurred to me that there must be a better way to pack a carry on bag. And indeed there is!
With the benefit of hindsight I have created a video that has loads of tips for family travel.
Visits to London can cause a bit of overwhelm if you're unsure of where to go and how to get there. This week's MAMA Life London video gives you some honest advice and helpful tips on some of the best places to go in London with children.
Picture this, you're about to embark on the journey to your family getaway and you have a strange sense of achievement, because this time, perhaps the first in a long time, you actually feel fully prepared for the venture ahead. This isn't something I usually feel, as I am a bit of a last minute kinda lady, I air on the side of improvisation. Why do today what you can do the night before you're leaving. But this sort of planning, often means that I live my life in hindsight.
So may I give you this opportunity to learn from my recent spout of 'If only I had thought to bring that' moments from our holiday to Disney Land Paris.
On obedience, I read a brilliant article about rebellious children in The Guardian. Before I had kids I imagined, rather smugly (what an idiot I was) that if you watched all the programmes, read all of the books and the magazine articles on how to get your children to do exactly what you want them to do i.e. sleep at the set routine times, then they will. But there are a lot of things that you don’t account for in this imagined pre-baby utopia. You try to follow ‘the book’ nonetheless, because ‘the book’ is the bible and you create a world for yourself where letting the baby sleep anywhere but the cot is a parenting manual sin
I’ve taken a mañana approach to New Year’s Resolutions this year. I was pumped full of good intentions pre-Christmas, my life was finally going to be worthy of a ‘How to…’ article on being a super-organised mum. But then, well, Peaky Blinders happened. My plans for Mama Life London world domination were put on hold while I binge watched Thomas Shelby of an evening and suffered constant wonderings of whether he really is a good man I could run away with despite his violent tendencies.
As stressful situations go, toddler tantrums or babies crying for reasons you cannot fathom when you’re out in public are probably at the top. What makes these scenarios where you want someone to magically transport you to an exotic island and put a cocktail in your hand all the more worse are the looks from people that say “For God’s sake shut your child up.” or suggest you’re doing something wrong.
